Ruman Treks to California’s WeatherTech Raceway for Trans Am Round 3

Ruman and the team are heading back to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Monterey, California for Round 3 of the Championship Presented by Pirelli, part of the 2021 SpeedTour running in conjunction with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA). Changes in the 2020 schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Series to cancel the event last year.

Ruman does not have a ton of experience at Laguna, as this will only be the third time she has run there; once in the Women’s Global GT Series (WGGT) in 1999 and in 2019 for the Trans Am race where she finished fifth. The famous west coast circuit is an 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course, known for its unique section of the course called the corkscrew – turns 8 and 8A – a hard-left, hard-right combination. The corkscrew drops 59 feet between the entrance of Turn 8 to the exit of Turn 8A—the equivalent of a 5½ story drop—in only 450 feet of track length. From Turn 8 to Turn 9, the elevation falls 109 feet, or just over 10 stories.

“Although California is a long way for us to travel from Ohio, I am excited to be back running at the historic track. I cannot wait to run the No. 23 McNichols Co. Corvette down through the famous corkscrew again! I am looking forward to a good finish here this weekend and scoring valuable points,” commented Ruman.”

After a disappointing twelfth place finish at Road Atlanta last month, the team is counting on a much better finish this weekend. Ruman qualified fifth at Road Atlanta, but heavy rain rolled in just in time for the race making for very wet conditions. Ruman had fogging and visual difficulties which made for a problematic race.

“I was super disappointed after Road Atlanta. I think we really had a chance for a top slot under dry conditions, especially because all of our times were so close in qualifying.” expressed Ruman.

Fifty-eight competitors are entered across all classes, with twelve running in Ruman’s TA class. Testing, practices, qualifying, and races will take place Friday through Sunday. The Trans Am TA2 race Powered by AEM will be Saturday, May 1st at 1:10pm and the TA/XGT/SGT/GT feature race will be Sunday at 1:30pm, both races are 46-laps (102.9-mi) – all times listed are PT. Heading into Round 3, Ernie Francis Jr. leads the TA class championship with 62 points, followed by Chris Dyson in second – 52, Justin Marks in third – 46, Adam Andretti in fourth – 45, Tomy Drissi sits in fifth – 42, David Pintaric in sixth – 37, and Amy Ruman is seventh – with 34 points
