Mandy Chick Scores Sixth-Place Finish and Continues Championship Contention Into Finale

Mandy Chick solidified her position as a JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour championship contender last weekend with a sixth-place finish at Lucas Oil Raceway.

Chick kicked off the weekend with a lot of practice to prepare and dial-in the race car. However, the team missed the setup in qualifying as they timed in 12th quickest out of 16 cars. The team elected to pull out of line and make a few adjustments for Sunday's feature.

"It was a really awesome weekend," Chick said. "We had a lot of good notes from the many times before that we have raced at Lucas Oil Raceway and had some additional new notes from VanDoorn Racing Development, which were extremely helpful. We missed the boat in qualifying and decided to just fall to the tail so we could make adjustments to make us better for the race."

Chick started the feature last - 16th. She battled her way through the field and was able to pick off several positions. Chick and Steve Dorer, a very well-known and veteran driver, had a great battle for position. Chick crossed the finish line in the seventh spot. However, due to a disqualification of the winner, Chick picked up an additional position to officially finish sixth.

"It was really good to be able to improve and make our way through the field in the feature," she said. "We made those adjustments, which happened to work out to what we needed and we ended up locking ourselves into the Chase.

"This is kind of like redemption for us. We locked ourselves into the Chase last year and it was over before it started basically. In last year's championship race we blew a motor, then had clutch issues and then ended up destroying a race car in our scuff session. So we never really got a fair shot at the championship. This year we're better prepared and almost prepared for anything. I've worked on better preparing myself both mentally and physically. We have checked, double-checked and triple-checked everything on the cars to make sure they're ready. And we're hungrier for this than we have ever been before. You can tell my team wants this, as do I, so I'm looking forward to it. It's a chance to boost our program and see what we can do."
